You probably know already that I absolutely love to travel. It’s my thing. A few months back, my really good friend planned a girl’s trip up north Michigan. Now I grew up in Michigan and have never been ‘up North’. Black folks don’t go ‘up North’. We usually go down south for vacation. I mean, we aren’t usually into hunting  and cold weather, so it’s not something we normally do. I’m not one to turn my nose up to vacations and I enjoy spending time with my friend so I went.

It was just what I needed. We rented this bomb ass house in East Tawas, Michigan that was right off of Lake Huron. It also had a sauna and a Jacuzzi. It was the perfect size for our group. The pictures don’t do it any justice. It was decorated with a beach and nautical theme. The weekend was so relaxing and fun.

I always feel so refreshed and ready to conquer the world when I get back from one of my travel excursions. As much as I like to travel the globe, sometimes a staycation is all that is needed to feel recharged and rejuvenated. You get to connect with yourself, save money, all while being a tourist in your hometown. Here are a few reasons why you don’t need to jet off to someplace tropical or exotic for your next vacation. Sometimes all you need is a staycation.

Gazing into the water. Why is water so relaxing?

1. It’s Less Stress

As much as I like to travel, I always get anxiety before every trip. It’s so weird. I don’t know if it’s because I wait until the last minute to pack or I get nervous to fly. It’s crazy. But by staying local you don’t have to worry about forgetting to pack an important item, missed flights, lost luggage, or any other travel disaster.

2. You Don’t Have to Use Vacation Days

Since staycations are usually someplace local, odds are you will only have to use a few or no vacation days. It’s a great time to take advantage of those long holiday weekends.

3. You Will Fall in Love Again

It’s fun to be tourist in your hometown and discover new places in the area. Perhaps there are some places you have wanted to visit but just haven’t had the chance. Now you can visit and support the local economy too.

4. Save Money

If you are ballin’ on a budget, staycations are the perfect opportunity to travel, but keep your wallet intact. Depending on the destination, it may only require a full tank of gas to get there. It beats an expensive airplane ticket.
