While I was home in Michigan, my boyfriend and I rented bikes from Detroit Wheelhouse and took a stroll through the city. I haven’t lived in Michigan in about 13 years and so much has changed. I have always had love for the ‘D’ and that has never waivered, but it is a little exciting to see all of the new amenities it has to offer. I’ve heard so much about the Dequindre Cut which is an old railroad that was removed and a pathway was put in its place for runners and bikers. We rode it from the riverfront to the Eastern Market and around the city. It was so much fun. The cool thing about the Dequindre Cut is that there are some neat graffiti along the path. You know I couldn’t help but stop and take some pictures in front of the awesome artwork.
Since it was my boyfriend’s first time in Michigan, I also took him to see the Heidelberg Project in Detroit. And just so happen, Tyree Guyton the artist and creator was there touching up his work. He even let me paint something.
The media likes to paint a devastating picture of Detroit, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. There aren’t packs of dogs running around nor is it full of ruin porn. Sure, there are bad parts, homelessness and crime. But EVERY major city has the same strife. That’s just the way it is. I can tell you that every person that I know that has visited Detroit ends up having a wonderful time. So don’t let the media discourage you. I encourage you to visit my lovely state.

This was lovely! Detroit from a native’s perspective instead of the media’s exploitation of it. Makes me want to visit someday.
Looks like you had a beautiful day! Love the pics!
