This year has been a world wind. I know I haven’t done any serious blog posts in a while. I have been crazy busy getting acclimated to my new job. A job that I love, might I add. It is my dream job that I had originally put on my vision board and now it has come to fruition. God is good. And the ‘Laws of Attraction’ works. I suggest all of my readers read or watch “The Secret” to understand what I’m talking about. I also started a new blog called “What Yo’ Name Is?” dedicated to the nameless cuties I see in the streets.
I took this picture on the chair lift.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that a couple of weeks ago I was in Snowmass, Colorado for the Black Ski Summit. This trip has become a biannual trip for me and my friends. I wrote about the last time I went to the National Brotherhood of Skiers Summit (NBS) here. I have been a skier since I was a child. And y’all know not many colored folks ski so I jump at the chance to go whenever I have an opportunity. There is nothing like skiing with my peoples. We bring a certain “ je ne sais pas” to the sport. And I love to see those of us that don’t know how to ski or snowboard get out there and try.
The people of Snowmass, Colorado were so kind and gracious. They treated us very well while we were there. We even had one of the shop owners tell us they love when the Black Ski Summit comes to town because we are so much fun. The good folks of Snowmass hooked me up with free ski rental and lift tickets. I can’t thank them enough. I own skis, but my small apartment doesn’t allow me to store them in NYC, so they are in Michigan.
There is nothing like skiing in Colorado. Nothing! It can take you literally an hour to get down a slope if you wanted. Back in my younger days I was a black diamond fiend but this time I stuck to blues and greens. My health insurance hasn’t kicked in at the new gig and I didn’t want any issues. My homeboy on the trip actually fractured his ankle snowboarding. I couldn’t go out like that so I kept it safe.
Our anthem for this trip was Drake’s “Started from the Bottom” which was so fitting. We skied in the morning and partied at night. Oh…ladies…these trips are a good opportunity to find your future boo thang. The girl to guy ratio is 1 to 1. (I would say there are more men than women.) And the men are MEN. I mean strong, athletic, over 6ft with professional careers. Many were doctors, lawyers and business owners. I even had a date in Aspen. Go figure. You don’t have to know how to ski to enjoy this trip. One of my friends doesn’t ski but would get dressed up in her ski “costume” and join us at happy hour everyday.
Here is a picture of my crew partying it up at happy hour which was an everyday occurrence. We skied in the morning and partied at happy hour into the night. Drinking and the high altitude makes an interesting combo. One drink in and folks are loose.
It’s always fun to connect with my homegirl I have known since I was child. We grew up skiing together. Going skiing has renewed my love for my once favorite sport. I’m really thinking about joining a Black ski group here in the city. I have done some research and I found a couple clubs.
I took this great photo in the middle of Snowmass Village.
Nobody is fresher than my clique!
This is a crazy photo we took the last day at the fabulous house we rented. I love my ski family and I can’t wait to do it again another year.
