I have really been into protective styling this summer which involves me pinning my hair up with bobby pins in various styles. As a result, I end up losing bobby pins because I just take my hair down anywhere and don’t have a proper place to store them.
So I scoured the web and came up with some possible solutions to my bobby pin caper. As always, I I wanted to share the perfect cost-effective (free) way to store bobby pins in a way that’s easier to get at them without just keeping them all in a big bowl.
Altoids tins or Airborne containers make great storage solutions for bobby pins.
Another storage idea is using an empty gum box to put bobby pins in for easy access. This is perfect for travel:
Using Empty McCormick spice bottles in great storage option. The holes are the perfect size to shake bobby pins out. Load them open side down into the bottle and shake away anytime you need a pin. Also, if you leave the lid off, you can easily get bobby pins out if you have one hand stuck to your head holding up your hair.
A great use for old prescription bottles is bobby pin storage. The bottle is the perfect size for hairpins and its secure lid will save you time looking in cupboards and drawers when you’re running late.
Using an old lipstick container is a great option as documented below on this video.
I’m looking forward to trying one of these storage options out. If you have storage solutions for bobby pins, I’d love to hear them.

I use an empty tic tac container. I love the flip top!
