I have to have the world’s cutest nieces!! I’m not just saying that because we are related. You can see for yourself.
2yr old Sydney Claire
3yr old Sasha Gabrielle
These two are the love of my life. Don’t mind me…I’m just a proud auntie.
I haven’t sewn anything at all in 2011. I’ve wanted to start sewing again but I hadn’t found the right project. I wanted to sew something small for my first project of the year. Something that I could complete in a couple of hours. I needed the instant gratification to renew my love of sewing. I came across a D.I.Y for a T-Shirt Dress at Make It & Love It that I could make for my nieces. This was just the right project to get me started. I read the post and ran out to the Garment District and bought some nice fabric. Ashley from Make It & Love it suggested using an old child’s t-shirt. I bought the t-shirts instead. They were only $3 for a pack of two at Conway, a discount chain here in NYC.
I came home and began sewing. I finished both dresses in one day. I didn’t follow the directions entirely. I made some adjustments here and there. I shortened the dress and made the skirt a little fuller. I wanted a Shirley Temple like bottom.

I think they came out pretty good. The fabric is silk so it was a little challenging because it kept unraveling and I didn’t have any fray block. But I used princess seams on the inside to hide the edges. My nieces live in Chicago so I will have to wait to see it on them. I’m going to mail it to them on Monday and hopefully my sister-n-law will take pictures and send them to me.
