A shot of the GM building from Belle Isle
Last weekend I attended my college’s Alumni Picnic. Many of you may not know that I went to Michigan State University. The picnic was held on Belle Isle, which is an island park in Detroit. I had so much fun catching up with old friends again. It was like we just left even though it has been some years.

Since my trip home to Michigan was impromptu I really didn’t pack any "going out" clothes. So I didn’t have anything to wear to a picnic. Shorts would have been really appropriate, but I’m not comfortable wearing shorts yet. I did manage to come up with the above outfit after a quick trip to the mall. Why is it always hard to find an outfit when you have some place to go? But if you don’t have any plans, you want to buy everything. I found the striped body con skirt and fell in love with it, but I wasn’t sure I could pull it off with my curves and all. I took it home to show my mother and she loved it. I needed her to cosign. She is brutally honest and would have told me if I couldn’t have pulled it off.
The festivities didn’t just end at the picnic. There was a party that night too that I attended. Of course I had to get a disco nap in between the two events. It ended up only being a half hour nap, but it felt really good. Here are a few shots that I took at the party. I didn’t take any solo shots before I left the house since I didn’t have anyone to take them. I really need to invest in a travel/portable tripod!

My dress was another item I picked up at my quick trip to the mall. It definitely needs to be hemmed. I think it’s a little long. I will tackle that when I get back to NYC. Do you think it’s too long?

Toya,
You look so cute. Love your hair. Looks like you had a great time while in the D!
I need to go shopping with you! I like both pieces you have on! And I actually like the length of the dress but I would probably just take about a inch off at the bottom just so a little knee is exposed.
I have to check out UK by French Connection!
Thanks Inez! I’m loving UK Style by French Connection. The skirt was only $9 and the dress was $12. Can you believe it?? They also have Petite and Plus sizes too.
