I have been reading a lot lately on holistic healing. And about how our bodies are depleted from many vitamins and amino acids that were once found in the foods we eat. But because of GMOs and other factors, our soil is deficient in vitamins and amino acids. And since that soil is used to grow our food, we (our bodies) in turn become nutrient deficient.
The majority of our illnesses like obesity, depression, addiction and others are caused by the foods we eat. Basically we are overweight and malnourished all at the same time. And it’s because we are eating too many processed foods which lack the proper nutrients. As well as it’s from having fruits and vegetables that are genetically modified. GMOs require massive amounts of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. They have to do all that to deter the bugs from eating them. Hell, if the gnats don’t want to eat them, we shouldn’t either. GMOs are just unhealthy…PERIOD. And the side effects are dangerous. Yet they are snuck into the foods we eat daily.
Now I am not a health fanatic by no means. And this post isn’t about buying organic and avoiding GMOs (which I highly suggest). You can read why GMOs are are bad here. But I do like to enlighten myself occasionally. So I have taken to learning a thing or two about how our foods are produced, vitamin and amino acid therapy as well as trying to commit to a more healthier diet. #BabySteps
This whole enlightenment came about while I was searching the net for ways to fight a sugar addiction. I honestly believe that I have one. I LOVE sugar and carbohydrates. It seriously makes me happy. I don’t ever crave anything else. I’m not a stress eater but I can eat bread all day and be satisfied. Comfort foods are my friend. But I don’t like how I feel after I come down from that sugar or carb high. I get a food coma. So I wanted a cure.
While looking for holistic ways to fight my sugar and carb cravings, I came across two books. ‘The Diet Cure’ by Julia Ross and ‘Potatoes Not Prozac’ by Kathleen DesMaisons Ph.D. Both books are about how you can curb food cravings and restore your brain’s mood and appetite chemistry through targeted nutritional supplements. They also talk about neurotransmitter imbalances and amino acid therapy, food sensitivities, adrenal health, and how you can boost your thyroid function naturally.
Now I don’t know how you do it, but I always read the reviews before I commit to purchasing anything online. Since the reviews for these books were very positive, I decided to get them. You know I’m all about saving money where I can so I checked to see if my local library had them. Can I just tell you the New York Public Library makes it so easy to look up and check out books. The NYPL had both books and I had them shipped to my local library. I did everything online. The library emailed me when the books were ready. And I picked them up. It was super easy. The fact that I live on the same street as my library was an added convenience bonus.
Those two books have taught me so much about vitamin and amino acid therapy. I was able to put together my own amino acid therapy protocol. I purchased everything from Vitacost. I knew what vitamins and amino acids to get because of the questionnaire in ‘The Diet Cure’. The quiz helps you identify the particular physical imbalances at the root of your problems through your symptoms. I used this amino acid therapy cheat sheet to narrow down what I needed to buy as well.
I started my therapy at the beginning of the year. My sugar and carb cravings have subsided and I have more energy during the day. I even lost 10lbs. I’m still working on having a more cleaner diet but like I said before…#babysteps.
