Hey friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday. I had a great time hanging out with my mother aside from a dinner snafu.
Because of my go with the flow lifestyle I failed to make dinner reservation for dinner. I wanted to take my mom to Ruth Chris but I didn’t think I would need a reservation. Wrong! I called that morning to see if there were any cancellations and they said no, but I could try my luck and walk in. So that’s what we did. It ended up being a 2 hour wait so we decided to try our luck elsewhere.
We ended up across the street at Morton’s Steakhouse in Troy because we were able to get a seat right away. Everything was going great. My mom had the oysters. She commented how they were delicious. And then we waited for our dinner to come out. We waited and waited. We saw people around us who got seated several minutes after us getting their food. My dad has zero patience at the age of 76 and was getting really angry. We asked our waiter, Marcus, what is going on with our food. He said he would look into it. My mother told him sternly, “I don’t eat cold food.”
They finally brought the food out and it was COLD. It must have been sitting back there for a longtime. The waiter never went back to check on our food. My parents were not happy. And I don’t blame them. We complained to the manager. They took the steaks back and threw it back on the grill. Now had this happened at Ruth Chris, we would have gotten brand new steaks. Now you know making a steak to a person’s taste level is precise. If someone orders their steak cooked medium and you throw it back on the grill, it’s no longer tender and not a medium steak anymore. It’s more of a well done steak. So my parents weren’t too happy again.
I went vegetarian this year so I just had a baked potato and fries. My food came out hot so I was spared the grief. I don’t do cold food either. The worst feeling is being hungry, waiting a long time for your food and for it only to come out all wrong.
After complaining again, the manager offered us complimentary desserts. We all thought it was a nice gesture. Because we were there for so long we got them to go. But to add insult to injury, Marcus, the waiter brought our doggy bag out with the desserts and placed it on the FLOOR by our table. I kid you not. He put our food on the floor! We were three people at a table that seats four. There was plenty of room on the table to set the bag down. Especially since they had taken everyone’s plate away. I was blown away. Who does that?
The moral of this story is that we should have waited to eat at Ruth Chris. We probably would have gotten in and out in the same amount of time we spent having dinner at Morton’s.
We didn’t let this snafu ruin Mother’s Day. We still had a wonderful time joking and having fun. You can catch that and other shenanigans on my snapchat @TheLimerickLane.
