This past Christmas I decided to do some D.I.Y. gifts for my loved ones. I made these Polaroid Magnets for my mother. I was inspired by a post a read on the Ambrosia Creative blog. I followed her directions exactly except I couldn’t find any book board and used white matte board instead. I didn’t have to use a white paint pen to clean up the sides because the matte board was white already. (One less step) I found all of my supplies at Michaels. (And “yes”, of course I used a coupon!)

Painted Porcelain or Ceramic Plates
I Painted Ceramic Plates with cartoon images of my nieces.
I was also inspired to paint some ceramic plates for my nieces from a post I read on Centsational Girl.
Supplies:
- Ceramic or Porcelain Plates: It needs to be able to go in the oven and bake at 350. My plate and bowls were from Fishs Eddy.
- Pebeo 150 Paints: I used both the pens and paints. I wanted just pens, but unfortunately the Dick Blick Art Materials I purchased them from didn’t have a great selection. They were sold out of everything. I bought what I could find. I actually preferred using the paint instead of the pens. Next time I will purchase them online.
Blick also has a rewards card that saves you 10% off your purchases. I made bowls too but I didn’t take a picture of them.
After you finish painting the dishes, they need to dry for 24 hours. Once that period is over you bake them in the oven for 35 minutes at 300 F.
Tip: The paint can be washed off until you bake it. So if you make a mistake, just wipe it off with a paper towel. Or try a little bit of water and liquid soap.

I love D.I.Y. projects, it’s just finding the time and inspiration to complete them is the hard part. This year’s goal is to blog more about my projects. I do many, but never blog about them.
Did you have a D.I.Y. Holiday?
