In keeping up with my new year’s resolution of traveling someplace each month, I went to Silver Spring, Maryland over the weekend for my friend’s birthday party. I just made my February goal by a few days. Yay me! I haven’t seen my good friend Daryl since she moved from NYC almost two years ago. Which is crazy because it was only a three hour train ride away. But life happens…I guess.
I was so excited when I got her invite to her party. One because it was a chance for me to see her and two because it was a 90s party. How fun! The 90s were some good years. Fun times and great music. 90s RnB music sends me into a nostalgic dream. Today’s music is no comparison.
Downtown Silver Spring
My friend loves her a themed party. From her annual Halloween party to the pajama jammy jam party. She loves a good excuse to wear a costume. The party was at small lounge in D.C. called Jin’s. It was the perfect spot. Great location and nice decor. We got there early to decorate a little bit. My friend found these cool “I heart the 90s” balloons and a blow up old school mobile phone.
I really didn’t think long and hard about what I was going to wear for the 90s party. I didn’t want to buy anything new. So I whipped up my own version of a look from the movie ‘Clueless’ – minus the plaid. And I put some Marley braid hair in my head for a side pony tail.
Daryl’s party was a success like all of her parties. She packed the place. The DJ she hired played all of the hits from the 90s – or at least my favorites. Even strangers that were lounge regulars came over to tell her that they were having a great time.
The birthday girl and I
I had a wonderful time over the weekend in downtown Silver Spring, MD. The area is so cute. Everything you need is within walking distance. While I’m not missing living in NYC, it did make me miss how everything is accessible by foot. I have to drive everywhere in Michigan. We did a lot of walking and I could feel it in my back. I haven’t really walked since I left NYC. My body was letting me know I need to get some more exercise. Goodness!

All in all, it was a great weekend catching up with old friends. I also got to eat at two decent restaurants. Copper Canyon and Founding Farmers. Yum!

OMG, Founding Farmers is soooo good! Not sure if you went to the one in D.C. or the one in Maryland but the one in Maryland is delicious!
I was in D.C. The food was really good!
