Last night I used the Guide to Inexpensive Broadway Show Tickets I posted yesterday and got tickets for my mom and I to see The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. The tickets were only $37.50 via student rush and we had orchestra seats. We were literally in the fourth row from the stage.
I love Broadway Musicals but I will say that this was not one of my favorites. I think it was because I wasn’t a fan of the operatic singing. That’s just my personal opinion. But I would never want to discourage anyone from seeing the play. I never listen to hearsay when it comes to movies and plays. I like to see it for myself and form my own opinion. I absolutely love Audra McDonald for years and would have seen her perform any where.
The beautiful thing about going to a Broadway show is that most times the actors come out after the play to sign and take pictures with guests. I waited at the backstage door waiting for the actors to come out. One by one they slowly exited the theater.
But make sure you bring along someone that is handy with a camera. Obviously my plus one (my mother) is not a photographer. She snapped this picture of me and Phillip Boykin who played Crown. *sigh*
I had to get a picture of Trevon Davis because he is from Michigan. I love seeing Michiganders making it big. Trevon was also a finalist on “Making the Band 4” and BET’s “Sunday’s Best”. You go boy!! We chatted about his hometown and my hometown. He was sweet and personable. And not bad on the eyes either. Owwww!!
My mom got a little better the second time taking this picture of me and Trevon.
Norm Lewis who played Porgy in the play came out too. Isn’t he handsome? I always joke that if I got with an older man that he would have to look like Blair Underwood, but I may have to add Norm to my list. I wouldn’t kick him out of bed. Just saying. He commented on how much he loved my mom’s outfit (she’s always stylish) and she was too geeked.
This picture my mom took with Norm Lewis was a little better. Now to my mom’s defense, I did have a small lens on my camera which requires the shooter to step a ways back to take the picture. For some reason my mother couldn’t get that concept. But I wasn’t taking any chances when Audra came out. So I enlisted the help of a complete stranger to take the picture. Sorry mom.
I think my new friend took a pretty good picture of myself and Audra McDonald. She is so stunning in person. I have followed her career since I was a teen. I adore her.
Here is a picture of my mom in front of the Porgy and Bess sign. Had I been thinking, I would have taking a full shot of her outfit. Maybe next time.
Have you seen Porgy and Bess? I would love to know your thoughts. What did you think?

Norm is FINE! Is he married? I don’t want to lust over someone’s husband. LOL
Yes, Norm is too fine.
lmao love your mom’s photo skills 😉 Trevon is a hottie!
I wanted to see this play. Jimmy Fallon has Broadway week and I really liked the number they did. Is it really opera-like? That would annoy me too…
Yes, Trevon was too cute!! I used my Michigan connection to schmooze with him. 🙂
