Last weekend I joined my friend and her husband for brunch at Le Petit Dejeuner in downtown Detroit. It’s a new restaurant specializing in breakfast and brunch food. I’ve wanted to try it ever since I rode past it on one of my Slow Roll rides.
The place is really small. Michiganders may find it too small since we are used to space. But the New York in me found it quaint. The only caveat was that there wasn’t a sign on the building. But they did have a banner up on the parking lot gate. So you can’t miss it.
Le Petit Dejeuner is family style restaurant. I thought the concept of sharing my meal was cool, but everyone at my table wanted something different. It wasn’t a big deal because there are so many tasty things on the menu.
I chose the ‘Living Single’ portion for one that included a pick of three items off the menu. The portion sizes were all named after popular TV shows. Very cute!
It took forever and a day for us to get our food. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen or since it’s a brand new business maybe they are still trying to get a handle on things. On the plus side, our waitress was very attentive. She was always checking in on our table.
I ordered French toast, waffles, bacon and the best tasting sweet tea. When am I ever able to get waffles and French toast in one sitting? Almost never. Sometimes you want both.
Granted, it took awhile to make it to our table but it was almost worth the wait. The food was delicious!
Everyone at my table was satisfied with their food. My friend enjoyed the creamy corn pancakes. But the ricotta filled chocolate crepe came sans ricotta.
Nice size portions, but the presentation could have been better. But that’s just the NYC snob in me who is used to food plated with an artsy flair. But at the end of the day, how it tastes is the most important. Right? And the food was the bomb! The prices were affordable too.
We went around 11am. The restaurant was full but we didn’t have to wait. They have a small parking lot to the right of the restaurant. Unfortunately, there isn’t a bike rack yet.
I love supporting black owned establishments. Le Petit Dejeuner is still getting its feet wet but I am positive that it will eventually grow into a Detroit favorite. Ooh la la!
Le Petit Dejeuner is located at 3411 Brush (three blocks south of Mack). It’s open 6AM-2PM Monday-Friday and 7Am-3PM Saturday and Sunday.
