I feel like there has been so much going on in my life as of lately with so little time to tell it. I have truly been busy, busy, busy! I was blessed to land a great job at the beginning of the year for an iconic brand. I’m doing what I love with a wonderful team. God really does answer prayers. #PowerOfPrayer
Last weekend I got a chance to see Tamia in concert for her 1st NYC headlining show at the Highline Ballroom. I have been a fan of hers since Quincy Jone’s Q’s Jook Joint album where she debuted first single, “You Put a Move On My Heart”. From the moment I heard her three-octave vocal range I became a committed fan. The fact that Tamia was raised in Windsor, Ontario, a city not far from my hometown of Detroit made me love her even more. Windsor is where I spent my younger years partying. The clubs, bingo halls and casinos is where I would hang out since the legal drinking age in Canada was 19. Not that I was a drinker, I’m still not, but it was something to do. Back then you could just drive to Canada without a passport or birth certificate. You just had to declare your country of residency. Easy. Unfortunately it’s not like that anymore. I say all that to say…listening to Tamia is very nostalgic for me. Her music will always be timeless.
Tamia put on an excellent show. It’s very rare to find an artist who sounds just like her records. And she sounds even better. She started on time and sang all of my favorites. I felt like she was singing to me at one point. The audience was enamored. I was lucky enough to go backstage and meet her. I told her about the time I saw her in Nordstrom’s in Michigan. I’m sure she could really care. I’m such a nerd. But I was tongue tied. I’m so mad at myself that I didn’t bring my DSLR camera. I usually don’t go anywhere without it but I didn’t feel like lugging it around. I had no idea I was going to get a chance to meet Tamia. I must do better next time.
