214 Magazine Launch for Topshop

Yesterday, I attended the Fashion Writer & Blogger Meet and Greet at Topshop. The featured panelists were journalist & columnist Indigo Clarke and Karen Blanchard of the fashion blog Where Did U Get That. The meet and greet was in celebration of the launch of Topshop’s in-store magazine titled 214.

The panel session was very casual. Indigo & Karen just talked to each other about topics that they had outlined. I got to hear their thoughts on fashion, tips on writing and how to grow a blog. I even left with a few pointers. Karen spoke about the importance of having media kits and advertising rates available. Someone may request that info from you and you want to be ready. Can you believe that three months into starting her blog she was asked to do a campaign for H&M! How inspiring! She also mentioned that tagging your pictures and blog posts will help you gain new readers. I will admit that I get a little lazy when it comes to tagging. One of the audience members suggested Alexa. I’m not familiar with this website, but I will be investigating it later. Karen’s boyfriend was there and he kept snapping pictures until she told him to stop. It was so cute! How wonderful to have a supportive beau.

I went to the meet and greet specifically to see Karen, but listening to Indigo Clarke (I love her whole name!) talk was a surprise bonus. I didn’t have any clue to who she was and I was not familiar with her work. She writes for Full Frontal Fashion and several other publications. She has an impressive and extensive resume. Indigo talked about what inspires her when she writes. Her job is so flexible that she spent 3 months in Hong Kong writing. Can I have that job? She is definitely living her dream. As far as fashion goes, she mentioned that she isn’t into trends and wears whatever she likes. I kind of like that!
