My friend who has dreadlocks recently told me an interesting story.  While at the airport, a woman came up to her and started touching her dreadlocks.  My friend in turn started petting the strangers blond hair.  The strange woman instantly realized what she was doing and said “Oh, I guess that is weird”. Duh! Hell yeah it’s weird!  Why do people feel as though it’s ok to touch your hair?  Which is a common occurrence with black women (natural or not).  I once even had a boss ask me if I used grease in my hair.  I told her I used what she uses … shampoo and conditioner.  *sigh*

I think many of you will get a nice chuckle out of the videos from the Unwritten Rules series.  “The Unwritten Rules” is a web-series based on the book, “40 Hours and an Unwritten Rule: The Diary of a Nigger, Negro, Colored, Black, African-American Woman”.  Each episode examines the comedic realities of being a Black Co-Worker in a predominantly white workplace.

Check out the videos below.  Episode 4 is my favorite because it is all about hair at the workplace.

I’m sure if you are a person of color, you have encountered many of these crazy scenarios at some point in your career.  The webisodes are hilarious. Tune in every 1st Wednesday of the month for new episodes.

What is the most absurd thing you have had a co-worker say to you?
