A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to attend the Black Girls Rock awards show taping. It was an amazing experience and I had the best seats in the house. I was 4th row, front and center.
For those of you not familiar with Black Girls Rock, it is an annual (and the only) celebration of the accomplishments of black women. It honors black women in many facets from science and technology to the arts and politics. Black Girls Rock was created by philanthropist Beverly Bond, a renowned model and DJ.
I was so honored to sit in Paradise Theater during the taping of the show among so many fabulous black women. The honorees that night included Angela Davis, Shirley Caesar, Taraji P. Henson, Laurel J. Richie, Imani Walker, Milika Saada Saar and Tatyana Ali. Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King were the co-hosts that evening. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Mary Mary, Mary J. Blige and Elle Varner performed.
